Up early and off to hospital. Its Scan Day.
We are used to it now appointments is 9.15. So now we know that we have to drink loads of water for an hour before the scan we learnt to get there an hour earlier than the time. So like today we were there just after 8 am . we were given a jug of water to drink. and bang on 9 15 mave was called in. When it was over we almost reached the door when a nurse called out. Please come back we would like to ask you some questions.
mavis said Oh dear, I knew it was bad news, I can feel it. I have too much water retention. They have found fluid on the lung . You will need to go home and fetch my night-clothes. Panic.
A few minutes later the radiographer came and spoke to us. Or rather to Mavis. It was over the contrast dye they used. Because she had a reaction before the system had thrown up an Alarm. Soon it was sorted out they want to know if she has a similar reaction this time. Is that it she asked. Yes ok. We thought you had found something bad. No the results will be ready in about 10 days. Thats it you can go home now.
Scare and panic over. But it does kick you in the groin and makes you realise that we actually live on a knife-edge between scans and reports. It could all go wrong so soon. With Poor Norman on my mind I realise it’s a precarious road we walk. But at the moment we live to fight another day.
